China may be gaining on the United States as the world’s top exporting nation, but the U.S.A. is still the best place in the world to start a new business, according to a global entrepreneurship index.
The 2012 Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index, which ranks entrepreneurial characteristics of 79 nations and identifies the entrepreneurial strengths and weaknesses of their economies, gave the United States the edge over runners-ups Sweden and Australia.
Rounding out the top 10 were Iceland, Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway and the Netherlands and Taiwan in a tie for 10th place.
